Presenting the 2012 Collegiate Disc Golf Championship

Day Two was the beginning of Individual Play.  Lots of wind on the Hippodrome Courses.  Due to so many players this year, we had to separate the field into two pools, A and B.  They played one of each of the Hippo and Hogback courses in the morning and the other in the afternoon.  After these two rounds were complete, here’s the current individual leaders:

Today’s festivities got started with a warm welcome from Tournament Chairman Pete May and other local dignitaries.  There was a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and a surprise fly-over from a local Augusta pilot.  Then we got to playing.

The first day is all about doubles.  Teams were matched up in “Rivalry Groups” and played each other.  Last year’s top finishers, Augusta State and Oregon fought it out.  There were other great pairings.

Wow.  Just five years ago, the first Collegiate Disc Golf Championships had seven teams compete for the Championship.

Today, 36 teams showed up.  The showing is impressive, with players traveling from all over the United States.  From California, Oregon, Indiana, Kansas, Pennsylvania, all the way to beautiful North Augusta, South Carolina.

During the course of the next four days, we will crown Team Champions, Individual Champion, First and Second Team All-Americans, GUTS Champions, Doubles Champion, Long Drive Champion, Putting Champion and I think a few more.

Additionally, this year, we have unprecedented support from local media.  Articles will be published in the Augusta Chronicle, several television stations and regular articles on PDGA.com.  On top of all this, we will be broadcasting LIVE ON THE INTERNET through association with DiscGolfPlanet.tv.  It’s free, folks!  Log on and follow the action!

2011 will be the fifth year of the Collegiate Disc Golf Championships.

The tournament will take place April 14 – 17, 2011 at the Hippodrome Course in North Augusta, South Carolina.
